Steamboat - Champagne Powder Above A Cowboy Town

With over 40 Olympic skiers to its name, the most notable being Billy Kidd, and a reputation for beautiful, dry, champagne powder, Steamboat is rightly known as ‘Ski Town USA’. Staying in Steamboat means ski convenience (especially in Chalet Christie Haus, where you can stroll to the slopes and Ski Time Square), beautiful tree-lined skiing and superb views across the Yampa valley.

Skiing & Boarding In Steamboat

Skiing is over four interlinking peaks: Sunshine, Storm, Thunderhead and Mount Werner, and much of it, especially for intermediates, is through beautiful wooded glades. Steamboat is fortunate not to suffer the normal weekend influx of local skiers from Denver. Beginners will appreciate the convenient location of the nursery slopes at the base of the mountain and the very high standard of teaching. This is an intermediates’ paradise with superb runs down from Sunshine Chair and Buddy’s run down from Storm Peak. Experts will make the most of the famed powder and tackle the ungroomed tree runs from Mount Werner. This is also the place to learn to telemark, if you are ready for your next challenge.

Après-ski In Steamboat

The main focus of activity is to be found in and around Ski Time Square with its attractive restaurants and lively bars. Downtown Steamboat is the authentic West - try the Old Town Pub or the Loft. The Slopeside Grill has a great Happy Hour. Winter activities include the hot springs, tennis, sleigh dinners, ice-skating and hot air ballooning. A ‘must’ is a visit to Strawberry Park Hot springs - three natural hot pools in a beautiful woodland setting, only eight miles from Steamboat itself, offering the perfect way to relax tired limbs.
