New Rules for Piste Bashers

Rules and regulations are being tightened for piste bashers after 3 people were killed in Austria last year and 2 people badly injured after accidents involving piste grooming machines.

New rules include a total ban on the machines being on the slopes when the runs are open.

Exceptions will be in a medical emergency or when slope safety is compromised. The machines are sometimes used in rescue situations and can be needed to clear a build up of snow.

Drivers are also to be given extra training.
